Carbon Offsets for Brownfields 2008

For the first time in the 13 year history of the National Brownfields Conference, Brownfield 2008 will be carbon neutral.  A conference of this size consumes an enormous amount of energy though facility heating and cooling, waste collection and disposal, mobile workshop transportation, conference staff transportation, and energy usage for the conference hotel block rooms, with assistance from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Holland+Knight and URS Corporation, Brownfields 2008 has offset its carbon footprint and environmental impact by purchasing Carbon Offsets.

The conference has purchased the Carbon Offsets from NativeEnergy.  NativeEnergy helps finance and build new clean and renewable energy projects that help create sustainable economic benefits for Native Americans, Alaska Native villages and other local communities.  By working with an organization like NativeEnergy, renewable energy programs, the conference is supporting the Hillcrest Saylor Family Farm Methane Project, which will help reduce global warming and pollution by reducing the amount of fossil fuels the farm use for heat and cooling, and prevent emissions from methane gas from storage lagoons.

Additionally, Brownfields 2008 and NativeEnergy have teamed up to allow attendees the opportunity to purchase carbon offsets for their travel for worthwhile sustainability projects that will displace electricity electricity from fossil fuels and reduce other greenhouse gas emissions by funding renewable energy projects, promoting energy efficiency, and supporting land use and agriculture-based projects, like methane abatement. By buying the offsets, conference participants can help these projects get financed and built, and their emissions reductions compensate for the CO2 pollution participants will use by traveling to the conference.

Reduce your impact on global warming by offsetting your travel!

To purchase carbon offsets for your travel to and from Brownfields 2008, visit NativeEnergy's Brownfields2008 Website.

NativeEnergy has created a custom calculator for conference attendees to be able to figure their CO2 emissions and purchase their own carbon offsets. When you offset your travel to the conference you will also help finance and build new clean and renewable energy projects that help create sustainable economic benefits.  Purchase your Carbon Offsets here.
